Pablo Picasso, or Pablo Diego Jose Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso (phew!) was born on 25th October 1881 in Spain.
A born artist, his first word was ‘piz’ a nickname for the Spanish word, pencil.
Picasso is most famous for being one of the inventors of the art movement called Cubism. Cubist’s tried to create a new way of seeing things – a more abstract way with most of their works represented as combinations of geometric shapes.
Over his 91 years, Picasso created over 20,000 pieces of art, always trying to explore the new, daring and unpredictable directions of art; expanding into sculptures, ceramics and mosaics rather than traditional art.
